Software
Savings on z890 - IBM introduced the zSeries
890 server in April 2004. At the same time the next stage
of Workload License Charges (WLC) evolution was also announced.
Many sites could be using WLC, or ZELC or EWLC and they are
not! Perhaps they have not examined the new pricing options.
Perhaps they did evaluate the options and there was not a
significant savings. WLC evolves, and with each evolution
the analysis must be repeated. This presentation examines
the upgrade options for a 9672-R56 and considers these machines
as replacements:
- z900-2C2, 100 MSUs
- z890-360, 91 MSUs
- 3 way, speed setting 6
Mainframe Charter, Technical Benefit
- z890-270, 107 MSUs
- 2 way, speed setting 7
Mainframe Charter, Technical Benefit
- z990-302, 132 MSUs
- Mainframe Charter, Technical Benefit
- z800-004, 108 MSUs
LPAR Capacity and Software Usage Analysis (LCS) was used for the analysis,
which was completed in just a few hours.
